Michelle Fowler
President (CPA, CIA, CISA)
Michelle T. Fowler holds the title of President for Fowler & Company Ltd. Michelle left public accounting and founded the company in 2001 when she realized there were limited options for smaller financial institutions seeking traditional internal audit and control consulting services in an outsourced environment.
Michelle graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA and has been actively involved in the internal audit and consulting business since that time. Michelle holds the designations of Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, and Certified Information Systems Officer. Michelle’s experience includes three years in public accounting, and four years with James River Bankshares. Michelle also spent two years in the internal audit department of the Neath Borough Council in Neath, Wales, UK.

James Peck
Senior Internal Auditor and Control Consultant (CPA, CBA)
Jim Peck joined Fowler & Company, Ltd. in January 2005 as a Senior Internal Auditor and Control Consultant. Jim is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Bank Auditor (CBA). Jim earned a BBA from Marshall University, and is a graduate of the School for Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin with an Audit major.
Jim spent over 25 years with Crestar Bank as an Audit Officer, Division Controller, and Assistant Corporate Insurance Risk Manager. He was controller for a local technology company for two years. Jim has provided clients with contract accounting, tax, and audit services, and has assisted several large Richmond companies with Sarbanes Oxley compliance. Since joining Fowler and Company, Jim has assisted clients throughout Virginia.

Cheryl Swienton
Internal Auditor and Control Consultant
Cheryl L. Swienton joined Fowler & Company, Ltd in July 2004 as an Internal Auditor and Control Consultant. Cheryl has a high honor Bachelor of Science degree from Utica College of Syracuse University where she majored in Accounting. Cheryl has been active in banking and financial services since 1987. She started her career working for several years in the Public Accounting industry. She then worked as a Section Manager of the Funds Transfer Division of the Bank of New York for over 7 years where she was responsible for managing the operation of several hundred domestic and international transactions daily with a staff of up to 25 people. Cheryl held the position of Accountant for a manufactured housing sales company for a couple years; she was responsible for the inventory floor planning and monthly financial statements for six locations. Cheryl returned to the Bank of New York as an Officer in the Audit Division before relocating to Virginia. Cheryl is also a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) candidate.

Beverly A. Adams
Financial Application & Control Consultant
Beverly A. Adams joined Fowler & Company, Ltd. in December, 2003 as a consultant specializing in financial applications and controls. She is experienced in all aspects of accounting and controls, budgeting and strategic planning, financial systems applications, mergers & acquisitions, due diligence, asset liability management, regulatory examinations and staff management. Beverly attended George Mason University and VCU majoring in language arts and accounting.
From 1979 to 2003, Beverly enjoyed positions in the community banking industry ranging from Controller of James River Bankshares, a multi-bank holding company to Chief Financial Officer with Citizens Bancorp of Virginia, Inc.

Cecelia M. Lewis
Loan Application & Control Consultant
Cecelia M. Lewis joined Fowler & Company Ltd. in July of 2008 as a consultant specializing in loan applications and controls. Cecelia has been in banking since 1990, holding a variety of positions including internal auditor, loan servicing manager and commercial loan portfolio manager. Cecelia’s experience includes management of commercial loan portfolio consisting of over 550 loans totaling $2 billion and management of a bank loan servicing department which had a portfolio consisting of consumer, commercial and residential loans. She possesses vast knowledge of loan documentation and industry standards, and has been responsible for all aspects of loan servicing from loan origination through satisfaction.
Prior to her position with Fowler and Company Ltd, Cecelia enjoyed positions in the banking industry ranging from Client Relations Manager for CapMark (formerly GMAC Commercial), Loan Servicing Manager AVP and Internal Audit Officer of James River Bankshares, a multi-bank holding company.

Joanne C. Bennett
Internal Auditor and Control Consultant (CBA)
Joanne C. Bennett joined Fowler & Company Ltd. in March 2010 as a consultant specializing in deposit applications and general internal controls. In 1995, Joanne graduated from St. Leo University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business with a Concentration in Accounting, and with recognition as Distinguished Graduate. Joanne earned the designation of Certified Bank Auditor in 1998 and also completed Canon Financial Institute’s Bank Audit School in June of 1993.
Joanne began her banking career in 1984, serving in various roles in bank operations, as well as Internal Auditor for Community Bankshares, Inc., a multi-bank holding company. In addition to internal audit experience, Joanne also held the positions of Security Officer and BSA Administrator. Prior to her position with Fowler, Joanne served as Senior Retail Operations Manager for First Market Bank in Richmond, VA.
